Blogging
What is a blog?
Online personal journal where entries are written, reflected, commented, and maintained.
Ways it can be used in a classroom:
* Great way to stay in touch with students outside the classroom.
* Encourages students to use writing skills to respond to posts.
*Allows absent students to see what they have missed.
* Great way for students to interact among
each other.
*Allows for students to use reflection skills while answering posts.
This is an example of a lesson using a blog for any 7th through 12th grade history class:
On the first or second day of my history classes I would post this question on my blog as a introductory question to the wonderful world of the past.
Why do we study history?
This is a great question to get students thinking about the reasons we as people need and have the urge to study history.
They can post anonymously if they want and are free to share any thoughts without the pressure of other students watching and judging them.
I can then reply to these posts and give individual time to each answer.
